hi i am delighted to be apart of the community.. having left the witnesses one of my first challenges was my believe in god.

naturally.. i have concluded that i am alive and conscious.

now my intuition tells me god exists, but my analytical thinking tells me god does not exist.

Just one further point.

i think the most difficult part about my amazing transformation in beliefs, was having to conclude that so many of those I admire, or looked up to are so adamant that God exists. Of course now I can indulge myself as an outsider, and in most cases I realise I saw an organisation being worshipped and believed in, not God.

p.s please not so hard on Perry, people are free to believe what they believe, and it wasn't so long ago I would have agreed wholeheartedly with Perrys comment.

wow thank you very much for the replys.

I think in the past I have got very passionate about things with out realising I do not have all the information. Anyway we should all be free to believe what we want.

i think I have been born at the right time-with the right information to conclude there is no God. That's my realisation for now and I am sticking to it.

Thanks Freeminds and bemused...now I will talk silly. But I believe my beliefs belong to:-

a) me

b) my sister

c) my brother

d) my son

e) my wife

f) my granny

g) my grandad

h) MY DOG

my point being, all these people I love have opinions that belong to them. Statistics tells me intuition may win. Is that not humble critical thinking?

Well said " Heaven" but did you honestly expect him to believe that?

a) YES ! YES ! YES !

b) Oh all right then, NO.

That is the sad thing " Heaven" we believe we have important " FACTS" and you decided bravely to reveal those " FACTS"

But it's like telling your dad his a darling, a big wooly bear, " give me a hug"

You are right he is wrong.....then you win, and he gives you a big hug and says " bless you"

This is the problem with leaving,and discovering T.T.A.T.T our excitement will think people will see things our way and give us a big hug....in my experience it doesn't happen that way...

p.s I think your above illustration is excellent, and you usiing the name " punk" in the left hand corner does not subbtract from the art. When you used " Paul G Jackson" so prominently I felt your name became the talking point.

LURKING JW: Thinking of leaving? Learn from my experience.

"mental wondering in the wilderness"... uh oh.... it's a long post from snakes.... lol.

yep... i think that is the best way to describe where i am at in life right now.

if you have read my past posts (mostly in the private section) you know some of my history as a life-long (now former) witness.. i have been away from the jw religion, for all intents and purposes, since dec. 06, though it was not until sept 07 that i stopped attending meetings.

My personal advice is be prepared to loose everything, but think of the future which is in front of you. And then realise you are making probably the most vital decision in your life.Then ask yourself can I leave, with out wasting energy on counter productive hatred.

And most importantly if you decide to leave, always remember with sattisfaction there are many lucky ones who have done the same, been through the same and rebuilt there life's in a more meaningful way.

" Good Luck" what ever you decide, as life can never be the same again once you realise T.T.A.T.T.

The word cult might not be perceived as a negative. One definition of a cult is " a group that loves each other"

in fact when I mentioned to a J.W it was a cult, he pointed out the " original Christians " were regarded from outsiders as being in a " sect" . He therefore regarded my observation as the highest form of compliment.

I have my own personal term for the J.W cult but I don't think the words are permitted on this board.

Have you ever shunned anyone after leaving the borg ?

this isnt particularly a jw question but if anyone knows the world of shunning it would be ex-jws.

i have a friend who about three years ago had an abortion and i havent been too friendly with since that happened.

i havent said anything or done anything rude to her.

I think how we choose our association should be a personal decision. I am free to associate with who I choose. I object to an organisation dictating who I can associate with.

having left the witnesses one of my first challenges was my believe in God. Naturally.

i have concluded that I am alive and conscious. Now my intuition tells me God exists, but my analytical thinking tells me God does not exist. So maybe God is alive in my heart but no longer in my head.

My questions are therefore :-

a) now we have left the Witness community, and are hopfully developing critical thinking skills, how has this effected your beliefs in God?

b) ido you think it wrong to dismiss intuition over analytical thinking? ( or vice versa)
